Ellerson Property has also won the contract to manage the Development Application process of 142 Macquarie Street, Parramatta. This 1.245-hectare site has a colourful past dating back to the colony’s early days. It was also home to Rupert Murdoch’s community media organisation Cumberland Newspapers.
Archaeological investigation of the site was conducted several years ago, along with an initial design competition. In the wake of Covid-19 and the lifestyle changes that have ensued, the site owners of 142 Macquarie Street concluded that it would be prudent to commission a new design competition. Ellerson Property has specified that design submissions work within the site envelope and FSR limits determined by the original design panel jury. Architectural firms that enter the competition will also embrace new transport infrastructure that wraps the site, namely the Parramatta Light Rail station, now under construction.
142 Macquarie Street will be a showcase the principles of place-making and a pillar of economic growth. A vibrant residential, commercial, retail and leisure hub linking Parramatta River with Parramatta City.
The agency anticipates that the Design Excellence jury will decide on the winning design in May 2022.
